Racism in Early Childhood Settings: Interactions with Young Children and Their Families

Tuesday, April 23, 2024 | 1-2 PM ET

Synopsis:

Racism, both overt and systemic, continues to permeate our society and infiltrate every facet of our lives—including educational settings. To create a more equitable and inclusive world, it is imperative to tackle it head-on and empower early childhood educators with the skills necessary to address and dismantle racism in their classrooms and in everyday interactions. This webinar will delve into the critical issue of racism in human interactions within early childhood settings and will explore the impact of these biases on young children. The webinar will also provide evidence-based strategies that educators can employ to create empathetic learning environments that foster respect, understanding, and equality.

Objectives:

  • Examine how and when young children learn about racism and identify ways to create a positive sense of self and a respectful understanding of others.
  • Discuss the impact of racism on young children to develop the approaches to help children and their families succeed in early learning programs.
  • Identify an emerging action plan for responding to racism in early learning work environments to attract, inspire, and retain a diverse staff of early childhood educators.
